Jakub Jakowicz has been performing since the age of 11.
In 1998, at the invitation of Krzysztof Penderecki, he performed Capriccio per violino e orchestra under Jerzy Maksymiuk. In 2001 Jakowicz made his debut with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra under Pinchas Steinberg, performing Karol Szymanowski's 1st Violin Concerto.
Since then, he has performed as a soloist with many renowned orchestras, including the National Philharmonic Orchestra in Warsaw, Orchestra del Maggio Musicale in Florence, the Czech Philharmonic in Prague, the Orchestra di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Dresden Philharmonic, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in Geneva, Orquesta Nacional in Madrid, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo and Concerto Köln.
He has worked with such conductors as Pinchas Steinberg, Jerzy Semkow, Antoni Wit, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Jacek Kaspszyk or Yan Pascal Tortelier, Eiji Oue, Krzysztof Penderecki, Agnieszka Duczmal, Michail Jurowski, and Marc Minkowski. In the years 2009 and 2011, at the invitation of Antoni Wit, the artist participated as a soloist in the tournee of the National Philharmonic Orchestra in the United Kingdom.
As a chamber musician, Jakub Jakowicz has formed a violin duo with his father, Krzysztof.
The artist has additionally performed with such musicians as Heinz Holliger, Paavali Jumppanen, Garrick Ohlsson, Paul Gulda, Jan Krzysztof Broja, Szymon Nehring, Michel Lethiec, Bram van Sanbeek, Elina Vähäla, Anna Maria Staśkiewicz, Ruth Killius, Katarzyna Budnik, Avri Levitan, Tomoko Akasaka, Gareth Lubbe, Daniel Müller-Schott, Andrzej Bauer, Alexander Gebert, Marcin Zdunik, Zvi Plesser, Timmo-Veikko Valve, Julius Berger.
He is also associated with two string quartets. In 2008-2014 he was the leader of the Lutoslawski Quartet, with which he made recording of the complete string quartets of Grazyna Bacewicz for the Naxos Label. Since 2006, he has been member of the Zehetmair Quartet, an ensemble created by Austrian violinist and conductor Thomas Zehetmair. In 2019 the ensemble's album (ECM) of works by Béla Bartók and Paul Hindemith was awarded the Diapason d'Or de l'Année.
Jakub Jakowicz in the Zehetmair Quartet has performed at the Berlin Philharmonic, Wigmore Hall in London, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Gulbenkian Center in Lisbon, Konzerthaus in Vienna, Zankel Hall and Y Hall in New York, as well as at famous music festivals, including those in Schleswig-Holstein, Salzburg, Lucerne, Aldeburgh and Edinburgh. In 2014 the Zehetmair Quartet was awarded the prestigious Paul Hindemith Prize of the City of Hanau. In preparation is a new CD with op. 51 string qaurtets by J. Brahms.
In 2007 Jakowicz received the award “Orpheus” during the “Warsaw Autumn” Festival, while in 2018 he was awarded the Medal of the 100th Anniversary of the birth of W. Lutosławski for merit in promoting composer's music. He is also twice winner of the “Fryderyk” Polish Music Award, which is given for the most important achievements in the Polish phonography.
In 2024 Jakowicz, along with the pianist Paavali Jimppanen and the Lutoslawski Quartet, recorded E.Chausson's works and “Departures “ album of Polish, 20th century music in duet with a pianist Łukasz Chrzęszczyk.
The 2024/25 season was rich in interesting activities of the artist. He gave concerts as a soloist with the National Philharmonic Orchestra in Warsaw, premiered written for him Marcin Markowicz's 2nd Violin Concerto, was a juror of the International K.Szymanowski Competition in Katowice, took part in the prestigious International Festivals "Ensemble", and Naantali Music Festival in Finland, performed and taught as a guest artist at the Australian Academy of Music (ANAM) in Melbourne, together with pianist Szymon Nehring and cellist Marcin Zdunik formed a piano trio.
Jakub Jakowicz is a professor of violin at the Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and at the K. Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice.
